Abstract:
Systems biology is still in its formative stage and there is no general agreement as to what exactly it encompasses. However, one aspect that is crystallizing is the potentially enormous role that modern concepts and techniques of biomedical systems analysis will be able to play in health care and medicine of the 21st century. In this presentation, I will highlight some of this role and make the case for computational systems modeling as a crucial element for the ultimate success of predictive health and personalized medicine. As a vignette illustrating a small aspect of the potential of systems biology, I will discuss preliminary results of a young collaboration between our computational systems analysis team and the Parkinson’s research group at Emory University.
